Realising God’s Potential

#54 When Jesus was asked what happens after we die, who are we with or married to in heaven he reminded people of God’s words to Moses: ‘“I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.“ He is God not of the dead, but of the living; you are quite wrong.’ #morningprayer #mark12v18to27 How often do we try to see the divine through everyday eyes? We cannot comprehend so much of God and heaven because it is outside of anything we can understand. The beauty of God’s creation does tell us something of His potential though. #aweandwonder

Listen Carefully

#52 Have you ever stopped listening to things that you do not want to hear? Whilst it may make you feel better at the time, I’m not sure it helps communication in the long run. Jesus often used #parables or stories to say the things that people did not want to hear…quite often people did not know what he was saying, or perhaps they did not want to know. I’ve been thinking about #deeperlistening: not so much hearing what people say but catching what they do not say, or want to say but can’t. It can be a real gift to people when they are struggling to talk about something. Is there anyone who you need to listen to this week? #morningprayer #mark12v1to12 (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)

Wipe The Slate Clean

#50 #forgiveness – a fresh start, a slate wiped clean? People often talk about it as a sort of obligation to the person who has wronged you, but sometimes it isn’t that simple. Forgiveness is a process, it does not mean that we have to ‘forgive and forget’ thus putting ourselves in a vulnerable position again – sometimes that can have dangerous implications. What it does mean is that we need to let go of the wrong, stop ranting about it, and stop the potential it has to make us bitter. “Forgive…so that your Father in heaven may also forgive you…” #mark11v12to26 Is there anything you need to start letting go of today? #morningprayer (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)

Did I say something wrong?

#49 “If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going. While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.” #john12v27to36a #morningprayer Over the last few days I’ve been reflecting on the changes to my life already in ministerial training…it is about giving way to myself and allowing God to guide. Yesterday I listened to a sermon on the tongue, and how it is difficult to not say the wrong thing…that is so true with me! I so often think ‘I should never have said that’ but it is too late! Being a child of the light is about so much, when you think of following the example of #wwjd but for now I am challenged with thinking more and speaking less…difficult indeed! Getting Closer to God

#46 Today I took myself off for #sabbath time…time to rest and not work, read, do housework, but just be alone with my thoughts and #prayers. I ended up walking for two and a half hours!! As I was walking, the wind was pleasant, but all around me. I was reminded of a time when someone explained God using a wind analogy – you can’t see Him but you can feel Him, and you just know He’s there. Gradually I began to feel #closertogod and the world around me almost paled into insignificance. Whether religious or not, I wonder whether you take time to rest and just think about nothing? Have you had an experience of awesomeness, and feeling in the presence of God/divine figure/something you cannot quite explain? It can be so refreshing…

Where do you get your strength?

#45 If you knew what you would find along your journey, would you still go? Jesus said, ‘See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death; then they will hand him over to the Gentiles; they will mock him, and spit upon him, and flog him, and kill him; and after three days he will rise again.’ #mark10v32to34 Even as the Son of God surely it took courage and bravery to face that in the knowledge of exactly what would happen? Look back on the last year at those unexpected things that have happened. Despite the fact that you may not have chosen them, you have shown courage and bravery as you have moved through difficult times. #thankgod for His guidance and strength…if you aren’t out of the other side of it, I pray that you will be soon. #morningprayer

Respond With Love

#29 Sometimes we can lose sight of the #humancondition … of the need to be listened to and understood, to be loved. We get hung up with #tradition and rules and respond with what is right and wrong, rather than what is needed. #morningprayer #mark7v1to13

#13 Lammas Service today – a service which is an ancient celebration of the first fruits and a reminder of our dependence on God. What will he provide you with this week?
