#187 I preached about #hope for #candlemas today, calling the congregation to respond to baby Jesus and the message of hope that Simeon and Anna saw in him by becoming #messengersofhope, making a difference #onepersonatatime by kind words, a smile, listening to someone who feels overwhelmed or an #actoframdomkindness to show them that they are not alone. #thestarfishstory helped to illustrate this…with thousands of starfish who would die when the sun got high, a boy who was throwing them back into the ocean was told he couldn’t make a difference, to which he threw another back and replied, “I made a difference to that one!” #luke2v22to40 (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)

Fire Gazing

#186 Is there anything more comforting than sitting in front of an open fire, watching the flames dance, listening to the wood crackle, and smelling that gorgeous wood smoke smell? I find it very therapeutic to gaze into the flames and just lose my thoughts. #findrefreshmentinthelittlethings (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)

Looking and Seeing

#185 We can see things so differently, but how often do we see things through different eyes? Do we see people’s actions or intentions first? Do we see their failings or their efforts? Would it make a difference?

Cherished Memories

#184 what do you #cherish? This identity bracelet represents some of the things I cherish, #faith #home #memories

It’s really easy to get caught up in the drudge of the every day, and forget to hold these things close and remember how #weareblessed …but we are! The greatest blessing for me is to cherish and to be cherished. How about you? (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)

Lantern To My Feet

#182 #psalm119 “Your word is a lantern to my feet and a light upon my path.” #light sustains us, it leads the way, it highlights things, it helps us to learn and grow by providing light to read, sunlight is nourishing, light is necessary! God gave us #eternallight and protects us from darkness. #godisourlight (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)

The Ten Commandments

#180 #thetencommandments provide the basis for a moral code. It is easy to think of moral code, and law which later developed, as a set of rules which you must keep…and which failing to will result in punishment. It is more than that though. Moral code and law is life-giving for all who abide by it, and it brings great freedom. That freedom is lost when the code is broken. God loves us so much, He wants us to live in the true freedom which He designed for us. “Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes and I shall keep it to the end.” #psalm119 (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)

#178 I’ve been thinking about the importance of #hearing and the attentiveness it requires. In pondering the difference between listening and hearing, I’ve come to the conclusion that hearing requires more of the senses to be used, whereas when you listen, you just get the noise. Hearing, or deeper listening, needs you to listen to the words being said, observe body language, think about what has not been communicated and possible reasons for that and to double check your understanding. It takes #timepatienceandattentiveness. I feel like I miss the point so much and I want to be better at this. I wonder how many conflicts would be avoided if we were more attentive to hearing one another… (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)
